dear william,
has it really been an entire year since the night you were born? what seems to be an eternity ago, and at the same time a blink of the eye, you arrived and changed our world forever.
(you and me, minutes after your birth)
since you were born my heart’s capacity has grown infinitesimally. it seems poignant that your first birthday is on mother's day; i know now that being your mom is what i was meant to do. your dad loves you more than anything in this world, and being your parents has made our bond with each other to grow even stronger. when i look back on your first year, i do not regret the loads of laundry that didn't get folded, the gunk on the bathroom sink sitting much too long before i got around to cleaning, or even the sleepless nights (well, maybe i do perseverate on this a little…). i do remember your first smile, your first steps, your first sounds, your first hospital stay, and all of the wonderful memories in between. i thank God for you every day. i am so happy and so blessed to spend each day with you, to share in your life, watching you grow, explore, and become a little boy.
