day four was very cool to say the least. we headed out early and drove back up the shore to east beaver bay where we rented an atv from a sports shop on the coast and took a three hour excursion into the wilderness. the scenery was absolutely amazing - one of the overlooks spanned a few hundred acres over a canyon-esque cliff. the colors on the leaves are just starting to change up here, and the view is breath-taking. we did end up seeing a couple deer, and grouse, and a blue jay - no bears, moose, or wolves. we did get a little clip of video of us riding the atv which i will try to add if possible.
the weather was great today so we headed back to the resort to enjoy some outdoor pool sunshine early this afternoon. it was nice to relax - but we decided it would be nice to get out a little again. we headed to a smaller coffee shop in town and brought the cribbage board we bought on day two. terri whooped up on me in a single game - i'm still convinced the cards were stacked, but i don't have any proof - yet... we grabbed some dinner, and then headed into duluth to catch an evening movie. we got into duluth around 1830, an hour before the movie, so we strolled over to the boardwalk and watched one of the ore boats pull into the harbor. we decided to see talledega nights - the legend of ricky bobby since we're both big will ferrell fans. and then we headed back up the coast to the resort and headed off to bed.
the blogs have been a little long with the inclusion of all the great food we have been sampling. i want to keep the blogs readable, so i'm going to start reviewing the great food at the end of the post - this is in honor of my friend katherine who spend a semester in france and sent me a war and peace length update on all of the great food she would try - :)
breakfast was back at the vanilla bean bakery where i tried a raspberry muffin and some of their vanilla coffee (delicious) and terri had a sugar donut with hot chocolate. we packed a lunch to bring with on the atv trip with groceries we purchased on day two of the trip. on the way back to the resort from beaver bay, we hit a little roadside cafe - the blue anchor cafe. we tried their chocolate chip cookie, brownie, and homemade lemonade. this would be a really worthwhile stop if you're ever up here. they serve breakfast all day, and even though we didn't try it, i would guess it's pretty darn good. dinner was pizza at a local two harbors joint called do north pizzaria - homemade crust and pizza sauce, and not skimpy on the toppings. i really enjoyed this one, but terri was a little less emphatic about the food. all in all, not our most interesting food day, but pretty good nonetheless. anyway, check back tomorrow for more updates! see you then...
