william and i went to a local park today after aaron left to work the evening shift. we are lucky to have three parks within walking distance of our house, and even more within biking distance. you are never more than a stone's throw from a park in minneapolis, which is one of my favorite things about living here.
as i watched william explore at the park tonight (explore = running away from me down the sidewalk to steal another kid's ball) i found myself reflecting on how different this summer is from the last. last summer he was an infant, so we primarily stayed within our own bubble. sometimes i still find it hard to believe that i am a mom, and tonight i wasn't just a mom remaining in my own bubble anymore...i was a mom at the park. that means i was chatting with other moms and making sure our kids were nice to each other (aside from the ball stealing). i am a social person, so i'm really enjoying the new relationships that being a parent is allowing me to develop.
tonight also reminded me of how much i love summer -- i really struggled with cabin fever in february and march. now it is so fun to venture out into our neighborhood every day to meet new people and play in the sun. and the best part? there is a positive correlation between how much sun william gets and how well he sleeps. bonus!
hey mom! did you see that kid? he has a soccer ball!!! let's go get it!
star wars fan or gilligan's island fan?

He's adorable! Being a mom has DEFINITELY taken me out of my bubble and introduced me to so many wonderful things that I never would have found on my own. Enjoy your summer with your now mobile child. :)
