thronson excessiveness gene

there is a running joke in my family about the Thronson Excessiveness Gene. it causes us to cook waaay too much food, buy too much clothing, and generally overestimate on everything when we entertain, shop, travel, etc. i won't mention any names, but some of us have it worse than others (ahem, momandrhonda, ahem). excuse me, i had a little frog in my throat there. :)

recently i fell victim to the Gene yet again. you see, last month i went to a local garden store to purchase an indoor seed starter kit for my veggies and herbs. i just wanted to dabble in gardening (by planting the seedlings in pots and planters) to have a few fresh veggies around this summer to supplement our csa. i looked at the small seed kit and thought that would never be sufficient, so i bought the large kit. i came home and proceeded to plant seeds in said kit. we have a fabulous garden window in our kitchen, so the seeds have been sprouting beautifully. and now? i have 72, (yes, i said 72) seedlings, and no garden! in addition to lettuce, peas, and herbs, i planted 18 cucumber seedlings and 30 tomato seedlings, and each of those seedlings needs a lot of room to grow. 30 tomato plants??? what was i thinking? i already transplanted the peas outside and gave a few seedlings to my neighbor. i also plan to give several to my sister, and hopefully i can manage to plant or give away the rest!

this is the view in my garden window as of this morning. despite the excessiveness, it has been fun so far! stay tuned to find out if the peas i planted outside will survive the transplanting process.
