nursing is normal

"The intention behind this project is the belief that the more often something is seen, the more accepted it becomes. The mothers that are part of this display pose in various public settings to help other mothers feel comfortable nursing in public. Nursing is normal."
--Kathy O'Brien, NIN Founder

back in mid-june william and i had the privilege of being photo subjects for the madison chapter of the nursing is normal (NIN) project. the project displays photos of women nursing in public to raise awareness and comfort with the notion of breastfeeding -- both in public and in private. the project was started by kathy o'brien, who resides in texas; lea wolf and alison dodge, owners of happy bambino, began a similar project in madison. the entire madison project will be on display at the goodman community center on october 2nd. i unfortunately don't think i will be able to make it, but hopefully some of you madisonians out there can!

i have nursed william everywhere from the mall to church to restaurants without so much as an uncomfortable glance or rude comment. unfortunately many other mamas out there are not so lucky, and i hope this project will help them feel empowered to continue breastfeeding.

check out this well-written blog post by another madison mama featured in the NIN project.

beautiful pictures! I should clarify, though, that I am not featured in the NIN project photos. I just wrote about it after attending the sneak peek. :) The picture is one Lea sent me to use with the post. But thanks for the link up!
